The gas should be turned to "on" if you get real low on gas and the engine starts misfiring, turn to "Res".
NEVER leave on "PRI", this setting allows the fuel unrestricted flow. Leave the tap in this position and you can fill the sump with petrol, which will not help the lubrication or lidfe of your engine. "PRI" needs only to be used when you have no fuel in the carb. Maybe after a rebuild or winter "hibernation".

Put the tap to "PRI" leave a few minutes and then fire the motor up, once running turn tap to "on" pos.

As for the engine dying tricky one. Might be worth checking that theres no dirt etc either in the carb which picks up into the jets or in the tank. (Drain the fuel and remove the gas tap to check.
Finally check that the little vacum pipe from carb to manifold hasn't got a small hole in it.
We had the problem on ours and it took ages to find why the motor kept dying at odd intervals
It does sound like carburation (?) problems though
Safe riding
Nick
